Building Conceptual Understanding of Complex and Abstract Concepts in Biology
Many concepts in biology are complex and very abstract involving processes that occur at the cellular and molecular levels. Using Edusmart Science Texas Biology, a TEKS-based online multimedia resource, computer simulated models and targeted hands on activities, we will explore how to build conceptual understanding of complex and very abstract concepts in biology whether used for primary instruction, End of Course Exam preparation, remediation or as part of a credit recovery program. The strategies and activities presented can be used with any resource.

Crazy chromosomes
Participants will use a model to investigate the relationship between DNA, gene, and chromosomes. This exciting new activity ties the concept of inheritance of traits to the processes of meiosis, gamete formation and fertilization. Participants will build a set of chromosomes, model gamete formation and fertilization and then build the resulting offspring.
Equipment raffle and free resources provided.

I 'HEART' Biology - A Lab to Teach the Cardiovascular System
Come join us for a Biology/Anatomy and Physiology lesson to demonstrate some innovative techniques to teach the Cardiovascular System to your students. In this "hands on" setting, the Vernier Lab Quests will be used to measure blood pressure and to perform an EKG. You and your students will gain insight into how these measures are used in the diagnosis of common heart diseases and prevention of those with hidden symptoms.
